Stephen Varanko III – Tips On Life As a Digital Nomad
The life of a digital nomad is a very good one indeed and I have been living in this way for the past 5 years. I was turned on to the lifestyle by my good friend Stephen Varanko III, who was one of the first people I know to love this location independent lifestyle. There are many ways in which you can take on this lifestyle for yourself and I wanted to share some tips with you if you are just starting out. The lifestyle is great but you do have to be smart.
Multiple Streams
Unless you have an online business which is roaring and taking up all of your time, the best approach to being a digital nomad is to have a number of different revenue streams coming in. For example let’s say that you are content writing to make a living, there is nothing to say that you will find clients next month or that you will receive work, nor the month after that in fact. This can always happen so it makes sense to have different ways in which you can earn online. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.
Changing Locations
When it comes to getting some work done you will of course be restricted to cafes, libraries and your home, or potentially co-working spots if you so wish. The key here is to make sure that you keep varying your days, and don’t simply stay in one place to work. Many people find this lifestyle only to become slaves to their laptops, staying in their home or their accommodation getting work done. Living in this way will not help you to realize the freedom that you now have.
Setting Hours
When you step outside of the traditional world of work you no longer have someone telling you what to do which is amazing, but it does mean that you have to have a lot of discipline. Owing to the fact that you no longer have set working hours, it is down to you to put them in place and work according to the job in hand. These hours can be very flexible of course but if you don’t put them in place, you may find yourself sitting for hours on end at your laptop, which is off course not very healthy.
Meeting
Something else which you will no longer have once you become a digital nomad is a huge array of workmates and colleagues who you can talk to each day. Whether you are a gossip queen or not, there is something that you will miss about this so it is important to have a great group of friends around, or that you are working hard on meeting up with people. Whatever you do be sure to find ways of meeting with people so that you don’t lose out on that social aspect of the job.
